Power Systems Engineer
We are looking to recruit a technically astute engineering professional with experience in undertaking power systems analysis.
ABOUT ZENOBE
Our goal is to make clean power accessible, to accelerate the shift to zero carbon power and transport.
We’re building and operating the world’s most sophisticated battery systems to enable the uptake of more renewable power and accelerating fleet electrification, de-risking the transition to zero-emission transport at scale. We’ve been consistently innovative since we were founded in 2017, achieving major industry firsts and using proprietary software and data analysis to optimise operational performance for our customers. At the end of their life, we repurpose electric vehicle batteries to provide clean power at depots, on construction sites and film sets.
Today we have 730 MW of grid scale battery storage operational and under construction and are the largest owner and operator of EV buses in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, supporting over 1,000 electric vehicles worldwide. In our first five years we have raised nearly £1.8 billion in funding and have expanded into other markets such as the US. Our rapidly growing company is looking for highly talented and motivated people to join us.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking to recruit a technically astute engineering professional with experience in undertaking power systems analysis, particularly dynamic studies (RMS and EMT), examining the performance of inverter based connections to the transmission network.
The role will involve working on multiple projects and will define the study work to be undertaken to meet Grid Code compliance requirements, support commercial bids to provide enhanced ancillary services to the Electricity System Operator, and inform Zenobe’s future technical strategy.
The role will involve working with various parts of the Zenobe business such as Business Development and Operations to support commercial and technical strategy and to examine the operation of our assets.
The roles requires an excellent understanding of power system analysis techniques and GB grid code requirements. Experience of using power systems analysis software such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory and PSCAD is essential. Experience in modelling inverter based connections, battery energy storage systems in particular, and studies examining delivery of ancillary services such as short circuit levels, inertia, reactive power, and black-start would be beneficial.
The role includes liaising with clients and external stakeholders such as National Electricity System Operator, technical consultants, and inverter suppliers.
It will be a requirement to hit the ground running and to be comfortable operating at a rapid pace at times with levels of ambiguity and the pressure of deadlines.

- Review, and challenge where appropriate, contractor design and engineering deliverables.
- Oversee network and site-specific power/electrical system studies including performance assessment for design assurance, and transient and dynamic stability studies.
- Support the development of the in-house engineering team to reduce the reliance on external consultants and suppliers (i.e. competency for running power system studies).
- Support Zenobe’s Business Development and Procurement teams with technical or technical-economic analysis for commercial tenders.
- Support Zenobe’s Project Delivery teams during basic and detailed design phases, construction, and commissioning
- Act as technical consultant to support the operation teams regarding asset technical issues after COD.
- Ensure technical queries are correctly assessed and responded to.
- Working with suppliers and Procurement, carry out ongoing research and stay up to date with the latest applications for technologies associated with large scale battery storage projects.
- Interpret GB Grid Code compliance requirements and ensure the necessary analysis is undertaken to demonstrate Zenobe’s project meet all relevant requirements.
- Engage with NESO to stay up to date with technical developments relating to project compliance and technical performance.
- Develop and capture IP to deliver innovative services during the transition of net zero carbon network with advanced inverter based technologies.
Health and Safety
