Communications Manager
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Communications Manager to lead our international media relations.

We also work with c.90% of the UK's major bus companies, powering 25% of the UK e-bus market. We’re also the number one owner and operator of e-buses in Australia and New Zealand, and are quickly expanding into light commercial vehicles and trucks. THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Communications Manager to lead our international media relations. This role is central to enhancing our profile as a thought leader in the energy and transport sectors, deepening our presence in national and top-tier media and driving storytelling synergies across our global business.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in media relations and agency management. They will work in close partnership with our US, Australia/New Zealand and UK based agencies. A core part of the role will be engaging stakeholders including the Marketing and Strategic Communications teams across the business to extract story details and business opportunities, as well as working with the Stakeholder and Community Engagement Manager to handle any community relations related enquiries.
A TASTE OF THE DAY TO DAY
Media agency management
- Lead the management of international PR and communications agencies to ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Develop and execute media strategies that elevate the company’s visibility in national and top-tier outlets.
- Serve as the main point of contact for media inquiries and spokesperson preparation.
- Ensure budgets are stuck to and optimised where possible – ensuring agency time is delivering outputs and results.
Thought leadership
- Position the business as a leading voice in key sectors by developing proactive campaigns, editorial content, op-eds, and media briefings.
- Collaborate with executives and subject matter experts to craft compelling narratives and messaging.
Integrated Storytelling
- Identify and drive cross-business opportunities for storytelling - to amplify the impact of announcements across geographies and channels
- Working in collaboration with the marketing team, develop toolkits, case studies and editorial calendars that support business objectives and campaign themes
Reputational management
- Partner with the Stakeholder and Community Engagement Manager to manage public perception and coordinate on high-impact community initiatives.
- Align external communications with internal messaging to ensure coherence and consistency.
- Manage crisis communications in scenarios of reputational risk.
Monitoring & Reporting
- Track media coverage, measure campaign effectiveness and provide actionable insights to senior leadership.
- Regularly assess agency performance and media strategy impact, adjusting plans as needed.

Essential skills and experience
- Proven experience (7+ years) in corporate communications, PR, or media relations, preferably in an international context.
- Demonstrated success in managing global communications or PR agencies.
- Network of media contacts within national and top-tier outlets.
- Excellent writing, editing and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex information into compelling narratives.
- Strategic thinker with a proactive mindset and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience working across complex organizations.
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience collaborating across departments and senior leadership.
Desirable skills and experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
- Sector experience in transport or energy
- Experience in crisis communications or issues management is a plus.
- Familiarity with digital and social media strategy as part of integrated campaigns.
- Proficiency in German or Spanish a bonus
